About the final paper

  • Two deadlines :
    • 5pm Tue 16 Dec 2008. Detailed comments will be given (when your essay is returned to you in Jan 2009).
    • 5pm Mon 5 Jan 2009. No comments will be given. (No penalty for taking this deadline.)
  • You should submit a copy online to turnitin.com (to check for plagiarism), and a PRINTED VERSION to Loletta in the Philosophy Dept general office.

  • NO late paper will be accepted.
  • Make sure you read these guidelines.
  • Length of paper: around 15-20 pages (double-spacing, times roman font size 11/12).
  • If you want, you can email me a draft before 9 Dec, and if I have enough time, I shall give you some brief comments.

  1. Is it irrational to accept substance dualism?
  2. Does physicalism make any sense?
  3. Critically examine Lycan's theory of consciousness.
  4. Defend Nagel theory of split-brain against Tye's criticisms.
  5. Discuss whether Jackson's knowledge argument succeed in refuting physicalism.
  6. Is LF the language of thought?

If you want to write on a different topic, you can send me a proposal by email BEFORE 30 NOV. If it is accepted I might add it to the list. You should not write on an essay topic that has not been approved.
