The letter, dated 1927, said:
My Dear Moore
I wish to write you a letter which will express all my gratitude to you for what you have done for me, and which will at the same time act as a sort of testimonial that you can show to anyone who wishes to know something about you.
This would be easy if your were not my friend—but you have become my very good friend, and I feel somewhat embarrassed.
