Course Learning Goals

- To gain understanding of some central issues in theory of knowledge
- To become prepared to independently explore this area further
- To sharpen and develop analytical skills in writing and reading

Course Assessment


80% Essays
Students will choose one of two options.

Option 1: Write three short essays on topics to be assigned.
Each essay will be 5-7 pages long. These essays will be
due on 4 October, 25 October and 3 December. Details about
these assignments will be provided later.

Option 2: Write one longer essay of 15-21 pages on a
topic to be determined by the student in consultation with
the lecturer. The proposed topic must be submitted to the
lecturer by 1 October. The essay is due at the end of the
semester on 3 December.

Whichever option is chosen, students are encouraged to discuss
outlines and drafts of their essays with the lecturer.

20% Class involvement
You are expected to attend class and vigorously participate
in class discussion.

Late Policy
Late essays will be penalized. Your grade will be reduced by 10% for each day late.

Academic Honesty

Plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated,
and will be severely punished. To plagiarize is to use of the words or ideas
of others without acknowledging their source.
