NATRON —     satellite image of Lake Natron in Tanzania from NASA

Ancient Egyptian netjeri, Greek nitron, Arabic natrūn. A naturally occurring mixture of sodium salts, used in antiquity and later for cleansing and antiseptic purposes, and for making mummies. Found extensively in Ancient Egyptian lakes.
