The Department of Philosophy at The University of Hong Kong runs two research labs: The AI & Humanity-Lab@HKU and The Hong Kong Ethics Lab. These labs organise talks, seminars, workshops, and public-facing events designed to improve our understanding of the ways AI is transforming society (AI & Humanity) and to drive academic research and public engagement on pressing issues of ethical concern (HK Ethics Lab).

The Hong Kong Ethics Lab (HKEL) is a group of researchers based at the University of Hong Kong focused on contemporary ethical issues with practical impact.

Visitor Programme
Our Visiting Scholars programme is intended for academics across a range of disciplines, including philosophy, political science, machine learning, and others. It is designed to offer scholars an opportunity to visit HKU for an extended period to work on a research project related to one of the labs’ areas of focus, collaborate with HKU researchers, and to broadly participate in the intellectual life of the community.
